Musical Bitchslap

So my beloved wheel o cheese shuffled me "Cry Me A River" by Justin Timberlake. That got me thinking...

What are the odds of a musical bitchslap coming from either Rihanna or Chris Brown when the dust settles??? Who will be victorious? Who will take the fall? Right now, it seems obvious, but ya never know. As I said before, I just hope everyone turns out OK. But just imagine...

We'd have a send off a la JT with the help of Timbaland with the most spectacular kiss off song...and video...EVER. Then we'd have the "oh I'm sorry" song but was really the "I'm announcing my departure from the music world as I have a meltdown" video response a la Britney's "Everytime".

Don't know if there's a right and wrong party, because when it comes to fall outs, it takes two (Rob Base, anyone?), and I don't know who would assume either role, but it would be cool to at least get some good music out of it.

Watch Cry Me A River.
Watch Everytime.

Let the Summer Concert Line-Up Begin!

Already there are two shows that I'm dying to see:

Nine Inch Nails with Jane's Addiction

Def Leppard with Poison

Sooooo awesome! NIN was announced in Billboard.com.

Def Leppard is kinda sorta official via Bret Michaels doing his Rock of Love Tour Bus press rounds. The first mention was in Blender magazine. The second, noted on DefLeppard.com, was via a CNN interview. Bret on CNN? Too funny.

Anyway, keep those announcements coming! I'm soooo gonna make up for last year's concert hiatus!

OMG Poison and Def Lep???

So I'm checking the Blender blog today and I come across an entertaining interview with Bret Michaels. Full article here. Here's one bit that told me about a tour this summer!

Nikki Sixx, Axl Rose and Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott have all slammed Poison. Ever bump into any of these guys since then?
TECHBOY2K1, DETROIT

"....I know Joe said something about us and some other bands not being as real. We became the biggest hair band in the world, and I think we became a punching bag when other bands’ careers started to dip. But I like all those bands’ music. This summer, Poison are going to tour with Def Leppard, something I’ve been trying to make happen for years."

Oh I'm sooooo there! 80's fest! Get your can of Aqua Net Extra Super Hold ready! (That's the white can w/the pink label, ladies and gents.)

Concert Review: Ben Folds

Ben Folds in Concert
Feburary 11, 2009
McCarter Theatre
Princeton NJ

Opening Act: Miniature Tigers

Opening Act: Princeton Nassoons

Rockstar Moto is back on the concert circuit! After about a year long hiatus, I'm ready to rock once again! First show on the circuit - Ben Folds! The show was pretty sweet - right from the start. And by start I mean including the opening acts, which usually aren't impressive at most shows. (Then again, Ben Folds was one of the openers for John Mayer in '07 and that was rockin, so that doesn't count.)

Miniature Tigers took the stage and I've gotta say, I'm diggin' their stuff! And any band that can basically work the crowd definitely has a future in rock. They fit in well with the Ben Folds scene and I just might purchase some MT merch! For more on the band, go here.

Next up, a glee club of sorts called the Princeton Nassoons. All I kept thinking was "Wow, they blow American Idol contestants out of the water!" Yeah, guess that's not much of a compliment. But these boys can sing. Of the three songs I only knew Extreme's More Than Words and it was wayyyy cool. Those high notes? Hit 'em all. Very nice. For more on these cats, go here.

Finally, Mr. Folds makes his presence known - opening his show with Effington and continuing the pattern of piano abuse to levels I've never seen! At one point I said to my hubby "About how many pianos do you think this man goes thru?" About a half hour later, he's pulling a broken piano string from the instrument and asked his roadie "About how often do I do this?" "More often than not." he replied. The man can play - but all I kept thinking about was the poor, helpless, defenseless piano. He just kept going, one song after another after another after another. He included a segment of "fake" songs and "real" songs from the album "Way To Normal." What do I mean? As he prepared to release Way To Normal, he decided to leak an early internet version of songs with the same titles as the "real" album, but created completely different "fake" songs behing it. So he'd play the fake one and then the real one. Excellent! This guy digs music. Who would do that? Apparently, people liked the hoax so much he's officially realeasing the fake songs under new song titles. (More info here.)

HIS...BAND...ROCKS. The drummer is insane. The bass player totally holds his own. The "everything else" player literally plays everything else, including that weird synthesizer thing you blow into, made famous by The Hooters. OK, I looked it up. It's called a melodica, or "hooter". There. You have been schooled. Then there's the percussionist, who likes to stroll on and off the stage with his tambourine. It must be his woobie. All I know is the man can rock with a triangle...'nuff said.

All in all, great show! Great opener to the 2009 Rockstar Moto Concert Circuit!

Grammy Recap

First off, yes it did steal the spotlight. I'm talking about the alleged smackdown between Chris Brown and Rihanna that resulted in an arrest and both artists cancelling their appearances on the Grammy's. WOW. Hope both will be OK.

As many predicted, Coldplay and Robert Plant/Alison Krauss won most of the awards.

I was happy to see John Mayer and Kings of Leon win.

I'm bummed that Alicia Keys' As I Am album wasn't up for more awards.

Best performances of the night - Jennifer Hudson and Radiohead (coool drums!)

By the way, I didn't know how to take Gweneth Paltrow's intro of Radiohead - isn't that like sleeping with the enemy? Cool disco ball dress though.

It was cool to see Dave Grohl in a muppet-like state playing drums behind Sir Paul McCartney. Throwback to Nirvana!

Was Whitney Houston a little....off?

U2's new song is pretty good - hard U2, not softy U2.

M.I.A. performing on her due date?!?!?! I was waiting for her water to break mid-performance!

The M.I.A./Kanye/Jay-Z/T.I./Lil' Wayne performance would have been great if I was able to understand one word that came out of their mouths.

Katy Perry's performance was um, sparkly, but ehh.

Please don't ever pair up Stevie Wonder and the Jonas Bros again. EVER. It was painful.

BFF's Taylor Swift and Miley Cirus actually wasn't bad.

B.B. King/John Mayer/etc guitar fest was pretty cool.

And as usual, I feel asleep right before they announced album of the year. As if it was a shocker???

In all, a decent grammy show, but previous years did have it beat. Here's to next year!

Oh Christian Bale, this is the only way I come close to liking you.

By someone remixing your f-bomb tirade. YES! Can he go away now?

On That Midnight Train to...

Sleepville. I was quieting myself to sleep with the soothing sounds of the Adult Contemporary music channel last night. Now, I would say this is not my first choice to go to sleepville (ahem, new age music channel please) but I found myself knowing all the words to the random selections - ooh! John Secada. Hey! Richard Marx. And when the volume is low enough and you're trying to make out the voice, Michael Bolton almost sounds like Paul Stanley of KISS. Don't know - might have been dreaming "anything but Michael Bolton" at that point. But one song that really stood out was Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Especially the end of the song where she sings "I've got to go! I've got to go!" and I'm thinking who the heck parodied that once by getting a little carried away at karaoke? After 10 minutes of pondering and losing sleep, I GOT IT!

Love that! Whew...would've been a long night!
