The Shuffle Challenge: #1332

#1332 is Chigaco's Stay the Night. Oh how I love this song! I think I was about 10 when I first heard it - via MTV. So thanks to the video I thought one of the lyrics was

"No need to hit me with that air tu-tube"

when it was actually

"No need to hit me with that attitude"

Yeah...I was smart. But it was another example of how video killed the radio star!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Oopsie! Podrunner reference correction!

In my earlier post I incorrectly referenced the source of Podrunner.

Podrunner is not from beatport, it is available at http://www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html or on iTunes.

Thanks, Michael!

iTunes $4.99 Albums?!

I was checking out lifehacker.com and found this: The iTunes Store is now offering a weekly selection of albums and movies for download at $4.99 each. SWEET! Let's see what I'll pick up this week: Offerings are Beyonce, The Clash, Miles Davis, Dixie Chicks, Kings of Leon, Lenny Kravits, Mazzy Star, and Travis. As for movies...OMG The Karate Kid?!?!? I soooo have to have it!!! Man am I stuck in the 80's! Ok, other choices are Terminator 2 and three other Arnold movies. Air America, Basic Instinct, St. Elmo's Fire, Air Force One and A Guy Thing.
That means I think I'll pass on the albums this week (I already have all the cool singles from most of the albums) and will totally get The Karate Kid! On that note, who can forget The Glory of Love by Peter Cetera? Love that song!

And speaking of discounted music, I read somewhere (probably WSJ, cuz I'm smart like dat) that Best Buy is doing a $9.99 CD pilot in select stores where ALL of their CDs would be $9.99. That would make me a definite buyer! I miss getting the CD and studying the jacket for special thanks, producers, cool pictures and song lyrics. I miss that. When I downloaded the new Def Leppard album Songs From the Sparkle Lounge, I was tempted to go and get the CD after I learned that I can't find the online version of the jacket anywhere. Wah. Make the magic happen, Best Buy! We're counting on you!

The Airborne Toxic Event

I'm diggin this album although they are a throwback band. I can't put my finger on exactly who they remind me of. But it is a pleasant reminder so I won't bash them.

More to come on them....haven't purchased the album yet, but will review soon...

Billy Joel, Elton John Make Touring Team

billboard.com: Billy Joel and Elton John will reprise their wildly successful co-headlining concerts beginning in March of next year.

You can read the article here.

Rolling Stone's Top 100 Singers of All Time

Aretha is #1 - ya got that right! I practically bawled my eyes out over her rendition of "Oh Christmas Tree". How can anyone do that? She can. As for the rest of the list...I don't know. I would think that a great singer is one who has a distinctive voice and who can easily invoke emotion in the listener. The song can be great, but it's the singer who makes the song unforgettable. I think some of voters confused songwriters with singers. John Lennon was a miraculous songwriter. But a top 10 singer? I don't agree.

As I read some of the comments, I agree that leaving Frank Sinatra off the list is a cardinal sin and that leaving Chris Cornell off entirely is not cool. I don't think Axl Rose is worthy of the list. And yes, Christina Aguilera is a great singer, but she's modeled herself after Mariah Carey, so by my definition, she shouldn't be on the list. Although, she does have more of an emotional side to Carey's technical side, but still. One or the other. Two people twirling their fingers while hitting high notes is one two many on this list. And although I like Stevie Nicks, I I really don't care for her voice. That uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh vibratto. If she didn't have that, I'd love her music even more. Here's the complete list:

The Shuffle Challenge: #374

I'm trying to let my iPod finish a complete shuffle of my 2829 songs - but its so difficult!! I hear one song that's so awesome that I want to stop the shuffle and hop onto the album or another playlist. But Rockstar Moto is strong this week - I have the will and desire to see this thru! Today I did have another temptation. The shuffle continued today with song 374, Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder. I know this song has been covered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers - and pretty well, I might add! But what I was wondering was this: is this beat the inspiration for Michael Jackson's Leave Me Alone? Its a song that will be coming up at some point on the shuffle, but I want to know NOW! OK, must not break the shuffle...so off to iTunes and Rhapsody I go!

I don't know. Its not a blatent sample, but it totally sounds like the baseline for Higher Ground.

Genesis History Lesson

Genesis: A History was on VH1 Classic tonight. I caught it a little while after it started. Now, the history of Genesis as I knew it was as of Abacab - with Peter Gabriel being known as a former member and he was doing his own thing with Shock the Monkey. I'm content with that history. I wasn't ready for the true Genesis with Peter's odd make-up and costumes and even more odd music. So I'm gonig to stick to my version of the group's history. TURN IT ON! But I did find this review from Rolling Stone:

My Day In Music

In the car this morning I heard Glory Days by Bruce. The song was just a catchy tune to me when it came out - I was in high school, so technically I was in the glory days...not very reminiscent. After hearing it again, it makes me want to get that album now that i appreciate the song more!

As I'm working from home today I have VH1 Classic on for some white noise. First song - Pop Goes the World. Ahh - we're in the Totally 80's hour! Oodles of fun! OK, next song...Heaven by Bryan Adams. I never really appreciated this uber popular song. Maybe because I was on the sidelines at the school dances, pining for the most popular guy while he's dancing with the most popular girl, and refusing to make eye contact with any of the guys pining for me because, well, they just weren't good enough. Yeah, I was waaaay picky.

Sweet! Next up is In the Air Tonight by Genesis. I should add this song to the ruined songs website. Now all I think of when this song comes on is Family Guy's Stewie Griffin saying "Well I Rememba" thru the TV on the Poltergeist episode. Hysterical! But back to this song - love the lyrics. I'm thinking YEAH BITCHES...
